With an early pick up we will get started on this fun trip, we start early in the morning so you can have the best opportunity to see the most wildlife and birds as possible (they are more active in the mornings and towards the evening). Once at the entrance of the park where the bridges are you will start on an approximately 2.5 hours hike through the beauty of the forest where will have from time to time a panoramic view of the forest, the valley, the lake and the majestic Arenal volcano.

Don’t worry about the hike being too long or strenuous, it is not like that, everyone can do it! It is a peaceful hike with several stops along the way to spot wildlife and learn about the trees, flowers, plants and birds that will be found on the trails and bridges. Make sure to stay close from the guide so you don’t miss anything ad hopefully learn how to differentiate the sounds of the forest and what all colors and different stages of the forest mean!

If you like chocolate as much as we do then you are in for a nice treat!

After seeing all the nature from the hanging bridges and its trails we will get on the way to the best organic chocolate plantation in the country. Chocolate has a great cultural meaning and our enthusiastic guide will teach you why it was so important for our ancestors.

Get ready to recognize the different types of cacao tree, all the stages and process on how to collect it and dry it until is ready to get to the kitchen and then to us! You will be able to witness how the indigenaous use to treat the cacao and will be able to do some chocolate samples on your own and try with all different flavours, later a nice tasting of the “Drink of the gods” will be displayed as well as some more chocolate tasting which is what we are looking for!

Keep an eye open while on the trail of the chocolate tour, you will see coffee plants, sugar cane and some organic and medicinal ones as well as one or other special little guests that will appear on your way.

At this point we are getting close to finish the day but not without a tasty lunch at a ranch right on the side by the river where a nice local family will welcome you and will give you the most delicious traditional meal you will have while in Costa Rica. Feel free to interact with them they are super friendly and love making new friends while teaching you about our culture in a beautiful, natural environment.

8:10am: Ready for Hanging Bridges?

The day starts with a nice hike crossing the Arenal Hanging Bridges; this zone owns 250 hectares of protected area, formed by primary rainforest with an innumerable biological diversity. In this beautiful place you can take pictures either from the view or wildlife. Tropical fruit snack is offered at the end of this adventure.

10:30am: Enjoy a typical snack!

After a couple hours on the Hanging Bridges, you will enjoy a delicious Costa Rican snack with tropical fruits and drinks so you can recharge the energy and continue on this wonderful hike through the forests!

The Arenal chocolate tour is a unique opportunity to experience one of the most important Costa Rican traditions. The Arenal chocolate tour begins in the sugar cane fields where you will be able to taste delicious sugar cane juice. Next you will enter the cacao plantation, this is where the cacao beans that become chocolate are grown and also you will be able to observe the chocolate process and taste it.

A fresh and tasty typical lunch is going to be waiting for you at an outdoor private farm in the country side, allowing for a real contact of Costa Rica cuisine and our popular "casado" which translates to English as "married", it is the basis of our typical lunch and consist of rice, beans, salad, picadillo, meat of your preference (chicken, beef, fish, or pork), and fried sweet plantain. Vegetarian option is always available.

Transportation is included from any hotel in La Fortuna and the Arenal area, some hotels are located further away from the main area, in this case an extra fee may apply. If your place is not on the list just ask us!
Pick up is usually between 7 and 7:30am (it varies depending on the location of your hotel) and takes about 7 hours to complete. By 2:30 pm you will be back to your hotel, after both activities have been completed successfully.
A delicious Costarican lunch will be provided and served by a local family in a beautiful location next to one of the rivers so you can be in peace with nature and be able to observe some more animals and birds.
Sure they can! Everyone can have a great time at the hanging bridges and at the waterfall, although we believe is more enjoyable for kids 4 years old and over.
Hiking shoes or sneakers will be ideal for the hanging bridges hike as well as comfortable clothes: shorts, t-shirts, tank tops. Bring also mosquito repellent and sunscreen and a raincoat in case of an usual rainshower.

Not entirely, the walk on the bridges is soft and goes at an easy pace so you can learn and see as much as possible of our rainforest. The length of the tour on the longest trail is of 3.2 kilometers (2 miles) and lasts 2 to 2,5 hours to complete. To the chocolate tour just little walks are required but get ready for a tasteful experience.
If a shower or rain happens before or during the tour, it continues as planned, remember is the rainforest and it should be expected. Unless there is a tropical storm in sight then the tour may be cancelled or postponed but we will contact you in advance to inform you.
